MICADR Certified Mediation Advocacy Skills Training (M-MAST) – 16 hours
Mediation Advocates are a critical component of an effective Mediation Ecosystem. Where Accredited Mediators are required to conduct mediations between disputing parties, Mediation Advocates are necessary to represent the parties in mediation proceedings. Like Accredited Mediators, an effective Mediation Ecosystem will have Certified Mediation Advocacy in a wide range of thematic areas of law and varying specializations e.g., family, civil, commercial etc. and more specifically, industry-wise specialization for instance Oil and Gas Mediation Advocates, Insurance Mediation Advocates, Banking Mediation Advocates, Service Industry Mediation Advocates, Regulatory Affairs Mediation Advocates etc.
In order to maintain the highest level of standards and quality, a candidate undertaking the Certified Mediation Advocacy Program is required to excel during the training sessions, experiential learning sessions and is also required to PASS the assessment to quality as a certified Mediation Advocate. Upon successful completion of the program and passing of the assessment, a Mediation Advocate will be given a certificate by MICADR.
Following this training programs, a law firm can easily begin marketing itself as a Mediation Advocacy firm and present its clients with options to resolve cases through mediation against a certain fee (leading to an additional revenue stream). Although non-mediation advocates can
represent clients in mediations, mediation advocates, due to their advanced training in negotiation skills and sound knowledge of the mediation process, will always have an upper hand during a mediation.
A Certified Mediation Advocate will, owing to their knowledge and understanding of the Mediation Process and negotiation skills imparted through this certified training program, will be able to represent their organizations/clients in an effective manner during a mediation.

Objectives of the Program:
The program aims to create a cadre of highly trained Mediation Advocates who, upon successful
completion of the program and passing of the assessment, will be able to represent parties in
mediation proceedings effectively. The objectives of the Program are to ensure that candidates:
1. Understand what Mediation is and why it is necessary today
2. Understand the Mediation process (ground rules, principles and how it works)
3. Understand a Legal Counsel’s role in Mediation proceedings (from choosing the right
mediators to drafting a settlement agreement)
4. Learn key Negotiation techniques to result in better settlements for your clients
5. Understand the economics of Mediation Advocacy (how to market yourself as a Mediation
Advocate)
